Aside from celebrating love and commitment, of course, your wedding is an opportunity to create an experience for your loved ones and guests – one they’ll never forget! Whether you choose a band or DJ to provide your wedding entertainment, their work can really set the tone for your special day, so it’s important to choose this vendor wisely. Dart Collective began as a DJ collective in 2013 but has since evolved into a group of working musicians and DJs who all share a passion for music and want to use that passion to make your wedding night unforgettable. They specialize in highly unique and modern musical experiences with the goal of reflecting each individual couple’s personality. Tell us what sets Dart Collective apart from other bands and DJs?

Dart provides a more customized and personal approach to music curation at weddings and special events. Music is our passion, and we want to share it with you and your guests — whether that means digging through vinyl crates for that one song you have to have or customizing a repertoire list for one of our bands to flawlessly execute, our main goal here is to elevate and personalize your event so that it uniquely represents you.

What is one thing every bride should know about booking a wedding band?

Their repertoire list! Unlike DJs, a band’s performance catalog is not unlimited. Make sure their repertoire connects with you. With that said, a pro tip (if you love a song off the repertoire) is to always ask your bandleader if they happen to know it. You never know, you could get lucky!

What types of music do you play?

We’re obsessed with music but we aren’t elitists! We get the same thrill from playing a 90s chart-topper as we do from spinning a rare soul 45.

What do you enjoy most about being a DJ?

Bringing people together with the right song at the right moment is what makes our job so special. There’s nothing quite like seeing grandma with her hands in the air while we sneak LCD Soundsystem in next to Paul Simon.

What is one thing every bride should consider when booking a wedding DJ?

Professionalism and thorough communication is often overlooked when working with typical DJs. We never let a day pass in-between email correspondence with our brides. A bride should feel like they’re working with a DJ that is detail oriented and willing to collaborate. We love feedback, and we never play the same set twice! Our goal is to be sure that every musical moment of the event resonates with our brides and their guests.

What types of music do you play?

We play every style of music under the sun! Some favorites include Motown, Indie Rock, British Invasion, 90s R&B, 80s radio pop and early 2000s hip-hop!

What is the most requested song or music genre?

“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston is a very popular request, but we never get sick of it!!

Clear and consistent communication and a well-executed musical performance that is relatable but stylish and modern.

Adventurous Engagement Session by Elle Reaux Photography

Elana and Michael escaped to Pedernales Falls for an adventurous engagement session with Elle Reaux Photography. The happy couple, who met as student-athletes at Trinity University, scaled the falls’ rocky banks and explored the adjacent trails as the sun set over the Texas Hill Country. We love the genuine emotions, warm colors and natural backdrop this picture-perfect scene has to offer. Read more below to hear the couple’s sweet story! Cheers!

From the bride on how she met her fiancé: “I ran track and field at Trinity and worked in the training room in my spare time. He played baseball and would come into the training room to get his arm rubbed out before practice. He started asking me to rub out his arm on a regular basis. I was completely oblivious and thought it was just because I was good at my job, but it turned out that he was interested in me. We became friends first but started dating a few months later.”

How he proposed: “After a weekend trip to Austin, Michael convinced me that we should go to the church we attended in college out in Boerne. After church, when we were headed back to Houston, Michael took a route that drove us right by Trinity’s campus. In what seemed like a spur of the moment decision at the time, we decided to stop by and walk around. We wandered around a bit and went by the baseball fields where he played in college and eventually stopped by the track where I jumped in college. As we started walking on the track, he let me get ahead, and he got down on one knee and proposed.”
